"Meeting and working with Mr. Mehta was one of the most important moments of my life. His untouchable charisma, impeccable musicality and never ending musical knowlegde were so influential during my studies and not only for me but for thousands of young conductors throughout the World.

I was the one of the luckier ones to meet Maestro Mehta in Los Angeles in 1996 and discuss with him his unforgettable performance of Mozart's Requiem along with the members of the Sarajevo Symphony Orchestra and Chorus at the ruins of Sarajevo's National Library, in a fundraising concert for the victims of armed conflict and remembrance of the thousands of people killed in the Yugoslav wars.

I had a chance to visit a few of his rehearsals at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and speak with him afterward.

I also had a chance to attend his 1998 Vienna New Year's Eve Concert and meet with the Maestro."

Maestro Mehta said once:

"Although I am flexible and ready to take advice, I can't carry an umbrella of thoughts over my head that would distract me and affect my music making.”
